So...I'm like behind by three episodes. Whoops. What can I say? Had a wedding (was the maid of honor) so I was gone and very busy and I've been on overtime for the past two weeks. Fun fun. But whatever. Water under the bridge. Onward to The Legend of Korra!
Well, I dunno what to say really except that I enjoyed all the episodes immensely. There were so many Makorra moments in all three of these episodes but especially in episode 5 where they shared their first kiss. I gotta be honest, that kiss brought me back to Kataang and I can't say I really liked that. Anyone else remember Katara saying she was confused and then Aang just up and kissed her? Yeah, it reminded me of that which was kinda disgusting. But...it was still cute if not a little too soon in the game for a first kiss - kinda rushed a bit - but I can't completely complain because the drama was great to see.
As for Mr. "She's Beautiful, I'm Gorgeous" Bolin - SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I loved him in episode 5. Their date was adorable and I have to say now that I wouldn't be that opposed to them being together. Not likely that it will happen, but still cute nonetheless. They really make a sweet pair and he's just so endearing I wanna hug him and pinch his cheeks. LOL.
Anyway, the Makorra action was great. I loved it when she just blurted out "Look I really like you and I think we were meant for each other!" His cringe after he turned her down was priceless. He is so jealous! Loved it! And of course that went into episode 7 quite well where Mako questioned her "Are you that jealous of me and Asami?" Her reaction was great! The jealousy thing they've got going on is adding a nice tension between the two of them and I've enjoyed watching it unfold and I look forward to more of it.
All in all, I liked all three of the latest episodes but episode 5 was the best - obviously! Can't wait to see more!
BUT...I do want to take this moment and pause for introspection. While, yes, I do like Makorra and I've enjoyed the show thus far, I still feel like we (Zutarians) are being quite unashamedly teased. Don't get me wrong, I like the show and I like Makorra, but...it just doesn't feel the same. Do you guys get my drift? The relationship between the two of them is progressing so fast and there are so many moments between them that in some ways it just feels forced. Mako is cool and all but he just hasn't really grown on me yet in the same way that Zuko did. Zuko was the best character in the Avatar world ever and he's kind of hard to beat...so Mako just falls short. Mako is still a good character but he is no Zuko. And Makorra is no Zutara.
Stop and ask yourselves something - Why did you like Zutara? Hmmm? I liked Zutara because it was forbidden and behind the scenes and quite frankly impossible. That was the draw of it for me. Zuko and Katara were from different worlds and different sides. We all knew that eventually Zuko would join her side but the fact that he started on the wrong side was just part of the fun of it. It was so dark and mysterious and forbidden that it had quite the pull on me and on all of us. It was magical. And I loved it! We all did. The little moments here and there that they had were what made Zutara great! Did you get that? The LITTLE moments, not the BIG ones. Yes, the BIG ones were obviously great too, but it was the buildup to those moments that made Zutara GREAT! The tension, the suspense, the foreshadowing, it all added to the mystery and suspense that was Zutara. At least, that's why I loved them together.
Now we have Makorra. Quite honestly, I'm getting more of a Kataang vibe from them and that kiss kinda sealed the deal. While, yes, they are not like the Kataang couple at all, they are also not like the Zutara couple at all. There's no comparison. And that's not a bad thing nor a good thing. It's just ok. I like Makorra, but I LOVE Zutara. Do you see the difference? Zutara will always be king in my opinion and I'm sure in all of yours - there's really no argument here. I guess I'm just sending my thoughts out to all of you. I really don't know what to make of Makorra at this point because in some ways I like them together and in others I don't just because it doesn't really hold any of that mystery that Zutara did. There are tons of BIG moments for them. Where are all the small ones? Where's the buildup? Where's the foreshadowing? There is none. But...that's ok. I'm not complaining, just...observing. And after "observing" seven episodes so far, I have to say that while I like the idea of Makorra, it is nothing next to the mighty supremacy that was Zutara.
So that's that. Let me know what you guys make of all of this. I love hearing your comments and speculations.
Oh, and on another note:
The AVENGERS was A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna go see it again this week. It was so great! I gotta say that my favorite character in that movie was Hawkeye. I just didn't see his awesomeness coming and then during the battle at the end he was just shooting his arrows dead-on left and right and I was like - Whoa! This guy rocks!!! I became a fan after that! Oh, and Captain America would have to be my second favorite in that movie and then Iron Man and then Thor and then the Hulk and then....well, ALL OF THEM!!! Who am I kidding! They all rocked! The movie rocked! Ah! I can't wait to see it again! I gotta see it again! I've been watching all the Avengers movies this past week to get all the background stuff and then I'm gonna see it again! Yay! It was so good! If you haven't seen it yet...THEN WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!
Oh, and another movie review I gotta give is for BATTLESHIP. I don't know what was wrong with some of the reviews that I read, but I thought it was fantastic! I enjoyed every minute of it! The special effects were great and I thought the story was great, too! I really liked it and wouldn't mind seeing it again. For those who saw it, best part was the grid. Funny thing was, it took me like ten minutes to finally wake up and realize that they were using a grid just like the game. Duh. I don't know why I didn't see it right away. But once I did get it, I was so waiting for the line "You sunk my battleship" or something like that. They never said it. Bummer. But that movie was great either way and I would highly recommend going to see it...AFTER you see The Avengers!
Yup. I think that's all. So TTYL my fellow Zutarians!
Kat
